Britishair ??? [Text limitations]

Why does British Airways send me an SMS from an account identifying as "BRITISHAIR"? That is not the name of the company...

The account name being charged per character? That would certainly make sense for BA

Could have been worse, there was a period in the 80's when they couldn't actually afford to have "Airways" printed on the side of the planes.

Because the maximum length for SMS sender ID is 11 characters, and ‘Britishair’ is better than ‘Britishairw’? They could just use BA I suppose. BA Holidays uses ‘BA Holidays’ which nicely maximises the 11 characters.

Tishairways would look dodgy as well.

Americans tend to call it Britishair - even at checkin and boarding. Weird.

I guess that’s kind of like Brits calling Alaska Airlines Alaskan or Alaskan Air.

As a refugee occupant of both sides of the Pond I aver that our common language is mangled by both sides,
if arguably more by the more numerous lot, and boorish behavior seems to be in a dead heat.

I’m from the US (prefer not to use the term American as that puts about a dozen other countries that don’t use English into the mix) and remember very well a Scottish study mate whilst in the UK saying often that the UK was a culture separated by the same language.

Clearly not cost driven, otherwise it would be a withheld number...

I remember having seen a departure board at LAX that said "British"

The French call BA 'British'. Or, more accurately, 'Breeteesh'.

.It goes against the grain for two similar vowels to be together.

Still, as they do not fly to the UK, this is something with which most "Brits" need concern themselves, is it? Like them though I do. We were BCal and I never minded that.
