What to wear in First Class
We are flying in F shortly and my wife is worrying about what we should wear.
What would you guys suggest? Smart or comfortable?

In the presumably 8 seats, there will probably be someone in a suit, someone in jeans, someone in shorts, someone in sweat pants, and half the people in PJs overnight. Where what you like.

And then for your wife.....
.... whatever makes you most comfortable to enjoy a long flight. Most passengers will often change into the lounge wear offered after boarding after take off and hang their travel clothes in the wardrobe. That way any spillages wont ruin anything important and you can change back in to fresh uncreased clothing brfore landing 👍
Enjoy what I asaume is to be your first First.... I can still remember mine and still enjoy the experience from time to time... infrequently enough in order to keep it as a special treat.

Tuxedos and Ball Gowns only. Theres quite a few threads on this. Plenty of examples of perhaps too casual dress (shorts & flip flops) and plenty of smart dress opinions. Do what is comfortable. Dressing up seems to be a thing reserved only for celebrity annual events, i.e The Oscar’s in today’s world. I see more people in restaurants nowadays who look like they’ve just got out of bed!! Being male I dislike ties (mostly) but you can still look classy and clean without a tie.

🎵🎵I was minding my business
Lifting some lead off the roof of the Holy Name church
It was worthwhile living a laughable life
To set my eyes on the blistering sight
Of a Vicar in a tutu, he's not strange
He just wants to live his life this way🎵🎵

There's no need to dress any differently than you would in any other cabin assuming you'd not wear something inappropriate in other cabins, and since you're asking about it I'm guessing you are someone that wouldn't do that. Also once on board you'll be offered a sleeper suit so not like you'll be wearing whatever you board in for long. I generally wear jeans and a polo fwiw, but again once we board the PJs go on until just before landing, besides being comfortable it also means you 1) won't spill dinner on your clothes 2) much better for sleep and won't end up a wrinkled mess when you land .
