Stats

In the US Northeast over summer, people normally go to Jersey Shore or Delaware shore for the beaches.  Atlantic City, Cape May and Ocean City are the hot spots.  We have been there, so we wanted to have a change and enjoy the summer more on the quiet side.  HR Chesapeake offers just that.

This is a category 5 resort, costing a moderate 20,000 Hyatt points.

From the Northeast, it is about 3-4 hour drive.  The busy section is passing Easton.  There was also traffic to Ocean City.

Check In

The resort is not hard to find.  It has a long private driveway to the entrance, passing the natural habitat area.

There are two parking lots.  The small one is for valet parking and was blocked.  The large parking lot is for general parking.  As part of the Hyatt benefits, we get complimentary valet parking.  But we only used it at check-in.  The parking lot is fairly close.

At check-in, we were auto upgraded to a standard suite.  I asked to see if there is any more upgrade.  Then finally we were upgraded to a 800 sf Chesapeake suite.

We were also given a set of vouchers for daily breakfast, evening appetizers and for coffee or soft drinks.  This makes up for the loss of the HR lounge.

Room

The Chesapeake suite is actually two rooms, one standard guest room and a separate living area.  The two rooms have separate entries and two set of keys.  The living area is very large.

Both rooms have its own full bathrooms.

Pool

This resort is well know for its large indoor pool.  It is open over summer and enclosed over winter.  It is huge.

Over summer time, families with small kids like to stay inside to stay away from the hot sun.  There is also daily kids movie every night.  It is really family friendly.

There are two outdoor pools, one for family and one for adults.  The adult pool is further divided into two halves with one half for young adults.

The water in the large was not very clear.  I guess it could be from the sun lotion people use.  The hotel can do a better job with it.

Beach

The resort has a section of beach.  Some guests swim there, though it is not recommended since there can be jelly fish in the water.

Amenities

There is an activity room and guest can play arcade games, ping pong and other games.  Nice for the kids.

Service

The concierge and bell staff were readily available.  There were also club carts to other parts of the property and restaurants.

Dining

As part of the Hyatt benefits, breakfast was included in the main restaurant Water's Edge Grill.  We could also order a single item from the menu instead of buffet breakfast.  I like the buffet breakfast better.  It is nice quality.  We enjoyed every day during our stay.

Also, we enjoyed the terrace area instead of the indoor table area.  The AC was running very strong over the summer heat.

In additional to the Water's Edge Grill, it also has the Blue Point Provison Company (seafood), Michener's Library for cocktain and heavy appetizers.  The Eagle's Nest Bar & Grill is for the gold club.  The Bay Country Market serves Starbuck coffee.

Location

This resort is located on the West side of the Delaware peninsula, off the Chesapeake Bay.  The water is not as blue as the "Ocean".  It looks more like dark green color.  But this is the place to enjoy the seafood.

So if you like the busy boardwalk crowd, arcade games, loud bars and restaurants, then this is the wrong place for you.  This is the resort type of hotel where guests enjoy the golf, swimming, drinks and food.

There are many local restaurants within walking distance.  I figure most guests get cars.

We enjoyed the crabs and other local seafood.

Overall

This resort is like 10-15 year old.  So it shows its age.  But it still retains its service level.  It is a nice change from the busy Jersey beaches and Delaware beaches.

The suite upgrade was great.  We enjoyed the large sutie.

Both the indoor and outdoor pools attract a lot of guests.  There is no pool at beach hotels off the shores.

The on-site restaurants are adequate.  There are also nice selections just outside the hotel in Cambridge.

Hyatt loyalists enjoy a lot of benefits, such as free valet parking, free breakfast and other perks.
